This is Trixie. She came to live with us on Nov 10, 2012. She was adopted from a rescue on a Saturday, when we went shopping at PetSmart. We weren't shopping for a dog, but this pretty girl won our hearts. Trixie is 3 years old, some sort of a pit mix. Staffordshire? Maybe. She is smallish and full grown. I'll have statistics (weight, etc) in a later post.
Today is day 4 of having Trixie in our lives. As I type this, she is sleeping in the chair next to me, softly snoring. We've had our morning walk (all walks are 0.5 mile = the distance around the block). She only made one mistake in the house - the first day - and it was my fault more than hers; I didn't pick up on her signals quick enough. She is a very quick study. The rescue did excellent work with her. She is not mouthy with food or treats, letting me take either from her. All I get is a questioning look......
Her history as we know it: She was rescued from Maricopa County Animal Control by the good people at Amazingdogsrescue.org. Trixie had been on the E or Kill list. Pregnant, and underweight with pneumonia, it was a long road to recovery. She was spayed prior to her pups coming to full term (she apparently had a previous litter). We brought her home with food, and crate (exchanged later the same day for larger size). We found Bear's old toys and bedding, laundered and fresh. Trixie fits right in and is happy camper. The cats have pretty much become accustomed to her - except of course for Putzie Pie, but in time, all will be socialized. The boys come around and cautious sniffs are now exchanged. RV is still a question mark ~ big tortoise that lives in the back yard. I think all will be well there too. Just heavy supervision and control/training.
Tomorrow is a big day. First we take a walk with our friend Dee, on the trail over by South Mountain. Then back to PetSmart for the groomer and a well doggie visit.
For now, it's nap time.
